About The Book To TheMahabharata is the “book of books”. It is an encyclopedia of ancientBharat (India). That is why it is said, “What is not in the Mahabharata isnot in Bharat (India)”. The variety of characters and situations are perennial source ofinspiration for politicians, poets, writers and scholars. Even for saints andsages. The Mahabharata is full of interesting and instructive fables. Much beforethe Aesop’s fables, and the Panchtantras, the Mahabharata presented gems ofpolitical, diplomatic and humanitarian thoughts and ideas through the fables.They are used to impart valuable ethical and social lessons. The fables fromthe Mahabharata provide us practical knowledge and also elevate as to higherethical standards. About The Author Dr. R.K.Sinha was born in a small village in Muzaffarpur, Bihar in 1934. He waseducated at Patna University and the University of Calcutta. He holds a Masterdegree in English and also in Prakrit, Jainology and Ahimsa. He was awarded aPh.D. Degree by Bihar University for his research work on Gandhiji. Dr. Sinhawas a Minister in Bihar in 1971 and a Minister of State Labour andParliamentary Affairs in the Janta Party Central Government led by Sri MorarjeeDesai (1977-79). He retired as University Professor of English from B.U.Muzaffarpur, Bihar in 1996. Dr. Sinha has been a social and political activistfor the last five decades.
